We are pleased to announce that Michael Guzzi has accepted the position as the new Director of FMS and will begin on campus April 17, 2017.

After careful consideration of survey comments, search committee feedback, and consultation with Robbi Stivers, incoming Vice President for Business & Finance, Michael Guzzi has accepted the position as the new Director of FMS. Michael comes to Chico State after an accomplished 20-year naval career. As a Civil Engineer Corps Officer, he specialized in construction operations, public works, and facilities engineering and management.  Michael has successfully completed hundreds of projects in 27 countries, leading diverse teams ranging from 100 to 750 civilian and military personnel.  Michael’s expertise encompasses every facet of construction and facilities management.  His superior leadership led to his selection of a special Civil Military Operation which included medical outreach, civil affairs, and humanitarian construction projects for Combined Joint Exercise Balikatan in the Philippines. As a result, Michael was awarded the 2015 Moreell Medal, given annually by the Society of American Military Engineers in recognition of his outstanding contributions to military engineering.
Michael is a proud Chico Alumni, graduating in 2002 with a B.A. in Civil Engineering.  He went on to obtain an M.A. in Civil Engineering from UCLA, and a M.A. in History from the American Military University.
“Michael’s impressive accomplishments and continued commitment to service have made him an excellent match and candidate for this appointment. I am confident that under his leadership, FMS will continue to provide excellent service to this great university and its community,” said Robbi Stivers.
I thank everyone who participated in the recruitment process. I would also like to thank the search committee, for their diligent work with this recruitment. I sincerely appreciate everyone’s time and effort in helping to find the right candidate to fill this critical role.
I believe Michael’s global perspective, expertise in facilities management, and love for Chico State will be an exceptional benefit to our campus. Please join us in congratulating and welcoming Michael Guzzi to our campus community.
