Modes of Instruction (MOI)
There are three overreaching Modes of Instruction (MOI) for learning
- Face-to-face / in-person
- Online
- Hybrid and ChicoFlex - a mix of in-person and online
Here is a link to videos explaining all three modes(opens in new window).
New for Fall 2021: "ChicoFlex" within the Hybrid category
ChicoFlex is our campus' version of HyFlex, which is short for hybrid flexible. The ChicoFlex MOI allows students to attend a class either face-to-face (F2F) or “live” remote learning using Zoom while the instructor teaches both audiences at the same time.
It may be helpful to think of the ChicoFlex in terms of "roomers" and "zoomers."
- Roomers are students in-person, in the same room as the class instructor.
- Zoomers are students live online, in Zoom, engaging with the class instructor and roomers at the same time.
These ChicoFlex classes are offered in special hyflex classrooms configured with cameras that follow the instructor around the classroom, microphones for Zoomers to hear voices in the classroom and speakers so roomers can hear zoomers when they speak.
For some ChicoFlex courses, there are Concurrent in-person and online sections. Both roomers and zoomers are in session at the same time. One section of students register to be zoomers for the online section of the class, and hence could reside away from campus for the semester. The other students register for the in-person section and attend class on campus for the semester.
For other ChicoFlex courses, there are Rotating in-person and online, students will need to rotate being roomers or zoomers, depending on the day of the week throughout the semester. In this case, students will all need to reside in close proximity to campus to attend class in-person periodically as defined by the instructor.
How to Identify a ChicoFlex Course
You will find the ChicoFlex Concurrent and ChicoFlex Rotating sections listed in the Class schedule. See this page for more information on finding ChicoFlex sections.
