Special community events, renewed friendships and a love of being in Chico are all in store during the third annual Chico Experience Week, Oct. 5-14.

Approximately 90 events will take place around Chico and California State University, Chico, from the unveiling of a new Chico Experience print from noted artist Jake Early on Friday, Oct. 5, to the North State Symphony Fall Chamber Music Concert on Sunday, Oct. 14.

“Our goal is to bring together local community members with students, returning alumni, parents and others for 10 days of fun and educational events,” said Sue Anderson, director of Alumni and Parent Relations at CSU, Chico. “Our alumni and parents really enjoy coming to Chico to return to campus, and also to experience all that Chico has to offer.”

For all events and ticket information, go to http://www.csuchico.edu/chicoexperience/ or call 530-898-6472.

Alumni will be gathering for several special events, including the Golden Grad Brunch for the Class of 1962; the 1955-65 Era Reunion; the Department of Recreation, Hospitality and Parks Management 50th Anniversary Reunion; the Communication Studies Alumni Reunion; and the Chico Chapter of the Alumni Association’s annual Fall Mixer.

The annual Chico State Family Weekend will have a period flavor befitting the University’s 125th anniversary. The old-fashioned barbecue at 11:30 a.m. (advance tickets required) will feature food, music and decorations that recall Chico State’s founding year of 1887.  After the barbecue, students, faculty and staff will gather on the Yolo Hall lawn and play town ball, a 19th century precursor to baseball. CSU, Chico President Paul Zingg, who is also a baseball historian, will officiate.

Sponsored by the Chico State Alumni Association, the Chico Experience Week is a collaboration among campus groups and local organizations and businesses. Local partners include the Downtown Chico Business Association, the Chico Chamber of Commerce, Chico Artoberfest, Chico Paper Co. and the Sierra Oro Farm Trail. Featured sponsors are Liberty Mutual, Marsh, Sierra Nevada, Wells Fargo, Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn.

Included during the Chico Experience Week are popular community events such as the Mozart Mile and 5K Run/Walk, the National Yo-Yo Contest and the Sierra Oro Farm Trail’s Passport Weekend.

On the CSU, Chico campus, there will be an arboretum tour Oct. 6, a public art dedication at Creekside Educational Garden Oct. 9, and numerous arts and athletics events throughout the week.
