California State University, Chico’s aims and achievements in sustainability will be on display Wednesday, Oct. 23, when schools across the country celebrate Campus Sustainability Day 2013.

Campus Sustainability Day logoAn open house will be held in the Bell Memorial Union Auditorium from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with more than 30 displays highlighting sustainability practices from across the campus. Environmentally conscious building methods, used in most recent campus construction projects, and waste diversion programs are examples of award-winning sustainable practices on campus to be highlighted at the open house.

A campus sustainability planning workshop will follow the open house from 1 to 3 p.m. in the BMU. Campus community members are invited to attend and share ideas about long-term sustainability goals and objectives. Some of the focus areas will be energy, water, and the built environment; waste and recycling; food systems; transportation; and education.

Sponsors for Campus Sustainability Day are CSU, Chico’s Institute for Sustainable Development, the Associated Students Sustainability Program and Facilities Management and Services.

Fletcher Alexander, campus sustainability coordinator, said Campus Sustainability Day participants can win free local lunches from AS Dining Services, free bike tune-ups from the AS Bike Cart and a free Zipcar membership and $50 driving credit. Zipcar is a large car-sharing service that has been available on the CSU, Chico campus since 2009.
