Regional & Continuing Education at California State University, Chico has invited re-entry students to apply for $108,000 in scholarships made possible through support from the Bernard Osher and Crankstart foundations.

Scholarships will be awarded to entering and currently enrolled re-entry students whose studies were interrupted for at least five years by circumstances beyond their control and who now want to resume their undergraduate studies at CSU, Chico. The deadline for scholarship applications is 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 2. Scholarship details and an online application can be found at rce.csuchico.edu/osherscholarship.

This is the 11th consecutive year that the Bernard Osher Foundation has supported this scholarship program at CSU, Chico. During the 2016–2017 academic year, 22 students were awarded re-entry scholarships by the Bernard Osher Foundation.

During the past decade, Regional & Continuing Education has distributed $532,277 in Bernard Osher Foundation-supported re-entry scholarships that were awarded to 102 CSU, Chico students.

In July 2010, the Bernard Osher Foundation awarded a $1 million scholarship endowment to Regional & Continuing Education to support re-entry students. This year, the Crankstart Foundation provided an additional $50,000 to fund 10 re-entry scholarships, each worth $5,000.

“With the support of the Bernard Osher Foundation, 66 Osher Re-entry Scholarship Program recipients have successfully met their academic goals and graduated. We are very happy to administer an expanding fund this year, as the Crankstart Foundation has generously contributed to our re-entry scholarship efforts and funded an additional 10 scholarships. If you know a new applicant or current student who may qualify, please encourage them to apply for this re-entry scholarship opportunity,” said Debra Barger, dean of Regional & Continuing Education.

The Bernard Osher Foundation, headquartered in San Francisco, was founded in 1977 by Bernard Osher, a respected businessman and community leader. The foundation seeks to improve the quality of life of students through the support of post-secondary scholarships, arts and educational organizations, lifelong learning institutes and select integrative medicine programs.

In addition to the scholarship endowment for re-entry students at CSU, Chico, the Bernard Osher Foundation also supports the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) on campus. OLLI is a peer-led organization that offers non-credit classes and activities for adults in the region.
