CSU, Chico to Host 14th Annual CELT Conference

The California State University, Chico Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching presents the 14th Annual CELT Conference, Oct. 8–10 on the CSU, Chico campus.

CSU, Chico faculty, staff and students and educators throughout the North State will meet and attend a wide variety of sessions to explore new ways to create high-quality learning experiences.

This year’s theme, Intellectual Engagement In and Out of the Classroom, will offer sessions and networking opportunities that focus on ways to promote critical thinking, problem solving and the application of knowledge to new and applied settings.

Conference participants are invited to attend the CELT Conference Awards Luncheon, Wednesday, Oct. 8, 11:30 a.m., Bell Memorial Union Auditorium, honoring CSU, Chico Outstanding Teacher Antoinette “Nette” Martinez, anthropology, and Outstanding Academic Advisor Roger Guthrie, recreation.

The University is pleased to host Brett Christie, associate professor and director of Faculty Development, Sonoma State University, who will present the keynote presentation, “Into the Land of Engagement: Crossing the Abridged Abyss.” Christie will also offer a CELT concurrent session, “Shall We Engage? Eyes, Ears and Hands-on,” Wednesday afternoon.

“The CELT Conference is a great showcase of the exemplary teaching and scholarly work my colleagues accomplish here at Chico and in our academic and global communities. I have always enjoyed discovering new perspectives outside my discipline and encourage all to take time to participate and share their best experiences,” remarked professor Lee Altier, CELT director.

The Thursday, Oct. 9, session schedule will feature a strand of four presentations that address international perspectives in the classroom. Over the course of the three-day conference, seven sessions will be offered to allow attendees an opportunity to discover and share emerging teaching and learning technologies.
