This festive concert, a Chico holiday tradition, features music for the season! It will be presented by the Department of Music and Theatre on Dec. 7 and 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Harlen Adams Theatre.

Performers include the 200-voice Choral Union, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Jazz X-Press, Brass Choir, student and faculty soloists, several chamber ensembles, various small music groups, the University Pipe Organ, as well as the Children's Choir of Chico.

The audience will be invited to sing along with the performers on such seasonal favorites as "Silent Night," "Deck the Halls" and "Jingle Bells."

“This is a unique holiday concert because the audience will hear such a variety of fabulous musical ensembles in one night,” said concert coordinator, Professor David Scholz. “It is a fast-paced concert with groups performing not only from the stage area, but from the aisles of the theater as well. Since we move from piece to piece with no applause, the time passes very quickly. People in the audience don’t even realize that 90 minutes have flown by.”

While proceeds from the concerts benefit music students in the form of scholarships, Scholz said, “The department never loses sight that Glorious Sounds of the Season! is also a way of giving back to the Chico community.”

Proceeds from the performances go towards scholarships for CSU, Chico students in the Department of Music and Theatre.

Advance tickets, at $20 for all seats, are available in at the University Box Office (898-6333); add $2 for tickets purchased at the door. For disability-related accommodations, please call 898-4325.
