CSU, Chico’s Dantona Is President-Elect of the American Association of Intensive English Programs

William Dantona, director of the American Language and Culture Institute at California State University, Chico (ALCI Chico), has been elected to serve as president-elect of the American Association of Intensive English Programs (AAIEP).

In the United States, AAIEP is the professional association that promotes the advancement of practices and standards in the field of intensive English language programs. Prior to his most recent appointment, Dantona served as AAIEP treasurer.

“The American Association of Intensive English Programs plays a very crucial role in promoting quality English language programs in the United States,” said Cheryl L. Delk-Le Good, AAIEP immediate-past president and director, Intensive English Program at Georgia State University. “We are very fortunate to have the support of William Dantona to continue our service and advocacy and look forward to his leadership of the board.”

Dantona has directed the American Language and Culture Institute at CSU, Chico since 2006, always with the central goal of promoting peace and prosperity through purposeful engagement across cultures.

Under his direction, enrollment in ALCI Chico has more than tripled, while increasing student diversity and extending the outreach of the California State University. The regional economic impact of these efforts is estimated to be $4.5 million for the last academic year.

In addition to his director position, Dantona is an experienced educator and teaches for the College of Humanities and Fine Arts as a lecturer in Asian Studies.

Prior to his CSU, Chico affiliation, Dantona was a member of the faculty at the University of Pennsylvania’s English Language Program, where he coordinated the Summer Institute for International Business Students’ pre-MBA program.

Before UPENN, Dantona earned his Master of Arts in Teaching from the School for International Training, Brattleboro, Vt. At World Learning for Business he served as a corporate language educator for several global 1000 corporations. He completed the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business Management Program in 2004.

The American Language and Culture Institute, located on the campus of California State University, Chico, offers five sessions of intensive English language instruction per year and facilitates the transition to an academic program at CSU, Chico, Butte College or other colleges and universities in the United States. The program provides general English language skills for students’ personal and professional growth, as well as an introduction to American culture and the higher education system in the United States.

ALCI Chico is administered by the Center for Regional and Continuing Education through the California State University, Chico Research Foundation.
