A number of events and activities have been planned at California State University, Chico as part of National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week, which is Oct. 19-25.

Daily through Thursday, the Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center (CADEC) will host a booth and activities from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Trinity Commons. The booth features a photo booth, raffle tickets and educational materials on the causes and effects of drug and alcohol abuse.

On Thursday, Oct. 23, a certificate ceremony for recent Wildcat ROAR! (Reach Out And Respond) program graduates will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Trinity Commons. Since the start of the semester, more than 100 students, faculty and staff have gone through the program, which trains people to handle alcohol emergencies and prevent toxic drinking deaths and promotes a culture of kindness, responsibility, compassion and respect.

Eight training sessions have been held so far this semester, and another seven (PDF) are planned through Dec. 9.

“Held each October, the goal of Alcohol Awareness Week is to offer educational programs and raise awareness about alcohol and its effects, as well as information on healthy choices for students,” said Trisha Seastrom, director of CADEC. “Our student peer educators collaborate with a number of campus departments and student groups to reach our diverse campus community and to make this week a success.”
