Once again this year, California State University, Chico is offering a variety of activities for students on Labor Day weekend, starting Thursday, Aug. 29.

A committee of staff and students from the Associated Students; CSU, Chico Student Life and Leadership; Campus Alcohol and Drug Education Center (CADEC); University Housing and Food Services; the Cross-Cultural Leadership Center; the Wildcat Recreation Center; and campus offices has been meeting during the summer to plan the events.

“These events give students a chance to showcase what it really means to be a Chico State student and how to lead with the ‘Wildcat Way,’” said Taylor Herren, AS president and chair of the Wildcat Way Committee.

Some of the events include a luau at the Wildcat Recreation Center Friday night, fun activities as part of the Cirque de UV taking place at University Village Saturday night and a barbecue in Bidwell Park planned for midday Sunday.

Labor Day weekend has traditionally been a popular time for floating on the Sacramento River, though a multiagency effort has increased law enforcement in recent years and a ban on alcoholic beverages will be in effect on the river for a second year.
