A recent gift from Kohl’s department store will support six students completing internships through California State University, Chico’s career center.

The Chico State Career Center hosts student interns annually to provide professional development, job training and exposure to potential employers. The $6,000 gift from Kohl’s will offset training and compensations costs and provide gift cards for the interns to purchase professional attire at Kohl’s.

Later in the year, representatives from Kohl’s will host a campus lunch and talk with students about professionalism in the workplace. This is the fourth year the department store has supported the internship program.

Career Center Director Megan Odom said the gift provides much-needed funding for a program aimed at student success.

“The main focus of the internship is the students’ professional development – we want to make sure they’re working on themselves, updating their resume and applying for jobs,” Odom said. “Through their own development, we’re hoping they stay to advise other students and help with drop-in hours. They’re definitely the face of the Career Center.”

This year’s interns and their majors are Aubree J. Bradford, child development; Laura N. Dial, communication studies/organizational communication; Geoff Hull, communication studies/public affairs and business administration/marketing; Marcos Mireles, sociology/Chicano studies; Kiley Short, Latin American studies; Sarah Tallon, communication studies/organizational communication.
