California State University Chancellor Timothy P. White has appointed Rollin Richmond as acting president of California State University, Chico. Current CSU, Chico President Paul J. Zingg recently underwent a medical procedure and is expected to fully recover following a recuperation period. Richmond will serve in a leadership role at the university until that time.

"Dr. Richmond has extensive experience leading a university and his focus on students, diversity and sustainability parallel the vision and values of CSU, Chico," said Chancellor White. "His familiarity with the region should make for a seamless transition, and I am pleased that he is available to help guide the university in President Zingg’s absence."

Richmond most recently served as president of Humboldt State University before retiring in July 2014. Since his retirement, Richmond has stayed active with the CSU by serving on the Presidents’ Commissions for CSUPERB (CSU Program for Education and Research in Biotechnology) and Coast (Council on Ocean Affairs, Science and Technology). Richmond served as the president of HSU from 2002-2014. His previous leadership positions include serving as the Provost at Iowa State University (1999-2002), Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at State University of New York, Stony Brook and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Florida. A product of the CSU, Richmond earned a bachelor’s degree in zoology from San Diego State and his Ph.D. in genetics from the Rockefeller University in New York.

“On behalf of the entire CSU, I wish President Zingg a speedy and full recovery,” added White. “I have the utmost confidence in Rollin to work with the faculty, staff, students and community to continue to advance the work of the university while Paul is recuperating.”
