Founded department of speech and drama.

Established requirement of an oral proficiency exam for all credential candidates.

Developed technique for the teaching of “listening” and wrote the first text on the subject, which was used by the military during WWII.

Outstanding actor in campus productions.

Served campus as Facilities Planner, Dean of Education, Dean of Instruction, and Executive Dean.

Campus theatre named in his honor.

Special interest in oral interpretation of literature.

Community service included being a Rotarian, trustee of Enloe Hospital, past president of the Chico Area Council of Churches, Omni Arts, National Council of Teachers of English, the local chapter of AARP, and founder of the local Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays.
