1981–2011

For 30 years, Theresa “Terry” Battle was a lifelong mentor to students and staff, as well as a strong advocate for community service. Battle joined the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Construction Management in 1981, serving as an administrative analyst and assistant to the dean before retiring in 2011.

In 2006, Battle took 26 students to New Orleans during spring break to assist with clean-up efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. She also led the project’s fundraising campaign, raising more than $30,000 for the trip. The following year, she took 56 students to help with the reconstruction of homes, raising more than $60,000. And, in 2008, she brought 115 students to rebuild homes, raising more than $120,000. This special project is said to be her fondest memory at Chico State—one that remains close to her heart.

She continued supporting the community service of students by leading efforts to build sheds for Concow fire survivors and transitional housing for Catalyst Domestic Violence Services and its survivors of domestic abuse.

She is described by colleagues as a person with high standards, who is a wonderful role model for every member of campus. She chaired Staff Council and initiated Koffee and Kudos, which continues to give staff across campus a chance to connect and recognize the dedication of their colleagues. She continued her service to the council as retired member. She was honored as the Outstanding Staff Employee of the Year in 2008 and received the Distinguished Retired Staff Award in 2011.

In retirement, she served as a Community Advisory Board member for the Gateway Science Museum, co-chairing an event that raised more than $126,000 in 2012.

She earned an AA in 1972 from Long Beach City College.
