EXCHANGE PROGRAMS

The university has a long tradition of participation in domestic and international exchange and year abroad study programs to enrich your educational experience. Inquire at the Graduate and International Programs Office for information on any of the following programs.

Year Abroad Study - International Programs

The California State University International Programs (IP) offers students the opportunity to study in seventeen different countries: Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, and the United Kingdom. Disciplines offered include art history, biology, communications, international business, education, social sciences, languages, international relations and development, and area studies. Obtain information and applications at the Graduate and International Programs Office.

University Studies Abroad Consortium

CSU, Chico is a member of a consortium of universities that offers semester/year abroad programs in Australia, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Denmark, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, Spain, and Thailand. In addition to language classes, there is a wide range of classes offered in history, anthropology, art history, literature, international business and economics, political science, etc.Many courses are taught in English.

CSU, Chico International Exchange Programs

CSU, Chico has developed many private inter-institutional exchange programs that offer unique opportunities to our students.

Costa Rica

Qualified students may continue their study of the Spanish language, literature, Central American culture, and other subjects offered at the Universidad Nacional in Heredia. Students must be proficient in Spanish.

Finland

Students complete semester-long internships in management information systems, marketing, computer science or engineering arranged through Central Ostrobothnia Polytechnic. Opportunities for language study in Russian, Finnish, and Swedish are also available.

France

Students who are proficient in French enroll in regular course offerings in computer science or engineering at the Universite de Technologie de Troyes. Some courses taught in English may also be available. Participants enroll and pay regular full-time fees at CSU, Chico for the period of study.

Germany

There are two exchange programs in Germany. Business students may opt to study at the Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences. Course offerings are available in English, but students are encouraged to study German while at Pforzheim. Students pay CSU, Chico fees and are responsible for round-trip transportation and living expenses in Germany.

Students of German and Art Studio majors may opt to take courses toward their major at Mainz University. Faculty permission is required.

Japan

There are two exchange programs in Japan. The program at Chukyo University provides instruction in intermediate and advanced Japanese language and culture, in addition to courses in business and other fields. Students must have completed two semesters of college- level Japanese to participate.

The program at Kansai Gaidai University features all levels of Japanese language training and courses in Asian studies. Students should have completed one semester of Japanese to participate. Students pay CSU, Chico fees and are responsible for round-trip transportation and living expenses in Japan.

Mexico

Undergraduate and graduate students can choose from three of the campuses of the Monterrey Institute of Technology, one of Mexico's premier private universities. The Guadalajara campus emphasizes business and technology, offering a wide selection of courses from introductory to advanced levels. The Colima and Hermosillo campuses offer a limited selection of liberal arts and business courses. Courses are offered in English and Spanish. Students pay CSU, Chico fees and are responsible for round-trip transportation and living expenses in Mexico.

The Netherlands

Upper-division business students may study for a year at the Amsterdam School of Business. Instruction is in English, and students enroll and pay regular full-time fees at CSU, Chico while studying in Amsterdam.

Taiwan

Undergraduate and graduate students may study Chinese language and culture at Feng Chia University in Taichung, Taiwan. Students pay CSU, Chico fees and are responsible for round-trip transportation and living expenses in Taiwan. Scholarships are available.

National Student Exchange

Approximately 80 students participate in domestic exchanges between CSU, Chico and the 174 U.S. member institutions of the National Student Exchange (NSE) Consortium. Forty-five states, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands are also represented. You may stay up to two consecutive terms in new academic, geographic, cultural, social, and political settings, experiencing different environments and resources. Full student status at CSU, Chico is maintained, and all approved courses transfer back to your Chico academic record. Because of our membership in NSE, Chico State participants may pay either CSU, Chico resident fees or resident fees/tuition at the host institution. This decision, however, is made by the host institution. In either case, non-resident fees/tuition is waived by the host institution.
