Additional
Coursework
Students completing the core and breadth and perspective coursework
will clear their majors for graduation. However, those wishing to
complete
their credential work at Chico State need to complete several
prerequisite
courses that are not required for the major (or for graduation).
Further information, including application forms, can be found at the Education Services Center
website.
Chico State Credential Program Prerequisites
The Chico State credential programs offered through the Department
of Education--into which the majority of Chico State English
Education
graduates enroll--have specific prerequisites for admission, as well as
what are labeled "floater courses" which may be taken at any time
(i.e., before or during the Credential Program). Some of these courses
are covered through General Education (GE) or the major; others must
simply
be taken as electives. The prerequisites are are organized into what
the Education Department is calling "Blocks";
all Block 1 courses (Prerequisites) should be completed by the end of
the semester one applies
for admission to the credential program. When
42 of the 51-52 units for the major have been completed, and the Block
1 classes are complete, students should apply for admission into the
credential program.
The courses listed below do not constitute all courses
required to earn a teaching credential. Rather, they are only the parts
of the credential program which are available to students prior to
their formal application and/or admission to the program.
