Breadth and Perspective Pattern 2:
Language and Literacy

The Language and LIteracy Pattern is designed to help prepare students for the various demands faced by the general English teacher. Please Note: English Education majors must complete all required courses within both the Core and their chosen Breadth and Perspective Pattern. Also, if you plan to attend Chico State's Credential program, you'll need a few extra classes.

    • English 477 (227): Semantics: Language and Meaning
    • English 478 (228): Linguistic Approaches to Reading (ENGL 121)
  • Theory and Practice--Choose one course:
    • English 431 (231): Theory and Practice in Tutoring Composition--4 credits (Strongly recommended: ENGL 110 and ENGL 175)
    • English 470 (232): Theory and Practice of Second Language Acquisition (ENGL 121)
  • English 489 (289C): Internship in English--3 credits
  • English 534 (294): Literature, Language, Composition: A Synthesis (ENGL 124, ENGL 175, ENGL 210)
