August 23, 2023 - Update Regarding Timely Warning Issued This Morning
Dear Campus Community,
To provide a little more context on the Timely Warning issued by University Police earlier this morning, I’d like to update you on what we know at this point.
At about 8:20 a.m. today, an employee was walking into Kendall Hall when they were approached by an individual who appeared to be carrying a gun. The suspect is not a member of our campus community and was seen leaving campus.
We are grateful for the quick work of University Police, who interviewed the witness and reviewed security video to identify and apprehend the suspect, who is now in police custody. We do not believe there is an ongoing threat.
While I enjoy the vibrancy that has returned with the start of the semester, it also brings a lot more activity to campus. I encourage anyone who sees something suspicious or threatening to contact UPD at 530-898-5555 to make a report. Our officers will respond immediately.
