Office of the President

January 23, 2024 – Flexibility as We Return to Full Operations

Dear Campus Community,

Last night, we got the news that CFA and the CSU have reached an agreement, which means the end of strike activity, the resumption of classes, and a complete start to the spring semester.

Having said that, I understand the past couple of weeks have not been easy for our students or employees. The uncertainty and stress have certainly taken a toll. Furthermore, the late-night timing of the agreement and the after-hours messages that students and employees received did not leave much time for them to adjust their schedules.

I ask each of us to be patient and flexible with each other as we ramp back up. If you need extra time to arrange for childcare or otherwise adjust your schedule, please reach out to your department chair and students (as I’m sure you already are) and let them know what to expect. I have also communicated with students that we will be flexible and understanding of their needs.

The Chico State campus community is a close-knit family that works extremely hard to support student success in a welcoming and caring environment. I’m grateful to be your president and welcome the new semester with hope and enthusiasm. Thank you.

Take care,

Steve Perez
