October 16, 2023 - What a Weekend!

Dear Campus Community,

Wow, this campus really knows how to put on a great event!

I hope you all had a chance to experience some of the festivities during Wildcat Weekend and enjoyed it as much as Tanya and I did. The energy, enthusiasm, and attention to detail made Wildcat Weekend a wonderful experience and served as a great showcase for Chico State. I am so impressed with your ability to deliver an event of such scale without a hitch. On Saturday alone:

  • Nearly 1,000 prospective Wildcats and their families visited as part of Wildcat Preview Day.
  • 1,700 alumni, parents, and students attended the barbecue and Concert on the Lawn.
  • Hundreds of student employees and volunteers ran around assisting our guests and making sure everything went smoothly.

Representatives from each of our academic departments staffed tables to answer prospective students’ questions about our majors, minors, and programs. Additionally, staff from programs across campus were present to highlight endeavors that support student success and showcase why we should be a top consideration for their college experience.

Many parents and alums have reached out letting my office know how much they appreciated the effort and organization that went into the weekend. I would like to both thank and congratulate the teams in Admissions, Alumni Engagement, and University Public Engagement for their countless hours of work that went into pulling off a successful event. I also want to thank all staff and faculty who put in extra time to set up, staff, and attend this weekend’s festivities. Your commitment to our campus and community is incredibly important, appreciated, and a testament to this remarkable institution.

I am already looking forward to Wildcat Weekend 2024. I hope everyone has a great week.

Thank you,
Steve Perez
