Office of the President

May 24, 2018 - Business and Finance Update

To: Campus Community

From: President Gayle E. Hutchinson

Over the past couple of weeks I have had the opportunity to speak with numerous groups (Division of Business and Finance staff, cabinet, Academic Senate Executive Committee, chair of the Executive Management and Development Committee) regarding an interim solution for the position of vice president for Business and Finance. After careful consideration of the time and effort needed to bring in an external interim, I have decided to rely on expertise within the division and appoint two key members of Business and Finance to provide leadership. Assistant Vice President of Business and Operations Jeni Kitchell will oversee the division as interim chief financial officer (CFO) and associate vice president of Business and Finance. Associate Vice President for Financial Services Stacie Corona will serve as interim auxiliary treasurer for the University Foundation and Research Foundation, as well as designated director for the Associated Students. I am confident that the leadership team and staff in Business and Finance will continue to provide excellent services to the campus with these interim appointments.

In addition, the national search for a permanent vice president for Business and Finance will launch in August, as soon as the campus community returns for the fall semester. The hiring committee for this position—consisting of staff, faculty and students—will meet once during the summer to update the position description for the vice president for Business and Finance and prepare it for posting on August 1, 2018. I anticipate that candidates will visit campus in early November and that the search will conclude in December, before the winter break.

Tomorrow you will receive a draft version of the position description for review. Feedback on the draft position description should be directed to Charles Zartman, chair of the Executive Management and Development Committee (EMEDC). I look forward to your participation in the process of selecting a vice president for Business and Finance.
