Opened in Fall 2016, the ceramics facility at CSU Chico has been designed with the needs of our students in mind. The 6,400 square foot facility features two separate classroom studios; a glaze materials lab; a plaster mold-making room; a clay mixing area (with Soldner clay mixer, Peter Pugger pug mill and two Slip-o-Matic slip mixers; and a kiln area housing 21 gas and electric kilns. Gas kilns include 40 and 18 cubic foot shuttle and 8 cubic foot front loading Bailey downdrafts, as well as an 18 cubic foot soda kiln, and lift off Laguna Raku kiln. Electric kilns include two 16 cubic foot front loading Bailey Thermal Logics, eleven top loading Skutt Kilns, and 3 Aim test kilns. All electric kilns are programmable.
