Chris Navarrete is a Chico State Alumnus and currently the Interim Director of Bands at California State University, Chico. Mr. Navarrete has earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with emphasis’ in Music Education, Music Performance, and Jazz Studies, as well as earning a Single Subject Teaching Credential. He has earned both a Master of Arts Degree in Music Performance and Jazz Studies from the University of Northern Colorado and is near completing a Doctor of Arts Degree in Jazz Studies with a secondary in Jazz Composition.

Over the course of his musical career Mr. Navarrete has worked as a soloist, clinician, lecturer, arranger, private instructor, guest artist, music instructor/director, and freelance musician throughout the Colorado and California areas. He has toured throughout China with the UNC Lab I Jazz Ensemble during the summer of 2016 and has performed with notable artists such as Joey D. Francesco, John Fedchock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Ingrid Jensen, Vince Mendoza, Jeff Hamilton, Bill Watrous, Bobby Shew, Sheila Jordan, and Chris Potter.

Mr. Navarrete instructors include Mr. Greg Gisbert, Dr. Richard Winslow, Mr. Kenyon Brenner, Mr. Rocky Winslow, Mr. Steve Kovalcheck, Mr. Bill Pfund, and Mr. Clay Jenkins.
