Bay Area mezzo-soprano Shauna Fallihee joins soprano Dara Scholz and pianist Sandra Wright for an afternoon of solo and chamber music. The centerpiece of the recital will be Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater,” a compelling work that chronicles the story of Christ’s crucifixion from the emotional viewpoint of his mother, Mary.

Head Over Heels is the bold new musical comedy from the visionaries that rocked Broadway with Hedwigand theAngry Inch, Avenue Q and Spring Awakening. This laugh-out-loud love story is set to the music of the iconic 1980’s all-female rock band The Go-Go’s, including the hit songs “We Got the Beat,” “Our Lips Are Sealed,” “Vacation,” Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven is a Place on Earth” and “Mad About You.”

The Big Band Boogie Bash is a full-day celebration of jazz music created in the North State. Hosted by the Chico State Band Staff organization, this all-day jazz festival features high school and college bands from the North State and the Chico State Jazz Combo playing across multiple outdoor stages on the Chico State campus. The purpose of this event is to bring people together, share music being made in the North State and provide a platform for networking, creativity and jazz education.

A smash comedy hit in London and New York, this much-revived classic from the playwright of Private Lives concerns fussy, cantankerous novelist Charles Condomine, who has remarried but finds himself haunted (literally) by the ghost of his late first wife, Elvira. Clever, insistent and well aware of Charles' shortcomings, Elvira is called up by a visiting “happy medium,” the eccentric and flighty Madame Arcati. As everyone's personalities clash, Charles’ current wife, Ruth, is accidentally killed. She “passes over” and joins Elvira, allowing the two “blithe spirits” to haunt the hapless Charles into perpetuity.

Daniel Hiestand Memorial Concert

Chico State’s Department of Music and Theatre presents The Daniel Hiestand Memorial Concert: Chico. The first half of the concert includes a combined performance with the Chico State Ensemble and the Butte College Wind Band. The second half of the concert is performed by members of the Alumni Band along with students from Butte College and Chico State.

Music performed will feature Wind Ensemble literature as well as traditional music historically significant to the Chico area. This concert is held annually in support of the Hiestand Music Education Scholarship.

Joined by a crack team of instrumentalists, composer and guitarist David Dvorin presents a program of original compositions influenced by hard-boiled detective fiction of the 1920s–30s. In Dvorin’s music, the whimsical and the profound collide, manifested in blues and jazz-inspired grooves combined with unusual and surprising harmonic and melodic twists sure to delight the active listener.
