Social Science Pre-Credential Advising

Most general questions regarding the History Department's Social Science Pre-Credential Option can be answered on this website. However, any specific questions you might have about the program should be directed to the department's pre-credential advisor. His contact information is below.

Advising is mandatory for all history majors. Current students are required to visit the credential advisor at least once each semester. The advisor will help you plan your schedule for the next semester, inform you about options that are open to you, alert you to changes in university, state, and federal requirements, monitor your progress through the program, and facilitate your transition into a credential program. No appointments are necessary; just drop in during the office hours posted on the advisor's office door and detailed on his voice mail message.

When visiting the advisor, always bring complete transcripts (official or unofficial) of your college and university coursework (plus evidence of any AP credit). You may download a copy of your transcripts through your Portal account. Before coming in for your first visit, please download the appropriate Program Advising Log, fill in your name, student ID number, and e-mail address, as well as your coursework to date, and e-mail the completed form to your advisor.

Students and others with questions about the History Department's Social Science Credential Option are invited to write, phone, or e-mail (the preferred method of contact) their questions.

Summer hours

There is no university support of advising for the Social Science Pre-Credential Option during the summer. From the end of the spring semester in late May until the beginning of the fall semester in late August the History Department's credential advisor volunteers his services, but is available less frequently and more sporadically than during the academic year. He will respond to your inquiries and requests, but probably not immediately. Your patience is appreciated.
