At Chico State’s Student Research Competition on March 8, undergraduate Vivian Hernández took third place in the Humanities division for her paper titled “Women’s Fertility and Social Transformation in Modern Mexico: 1968-1988.” Master’s degree student Juan Vega Ramírez placed second for his paper, “Proselytizing Modernity: Reexamining the Summer Institute of Linguistics' Tenure in Mexico, 1934-1979.” Both Vivian and Juan will join eight other students representing Chico State at the statewide CSU Research Competition on March 31 and April 1.

As an encore, Vivian and Juan also presented their work at the Rocky Mountain Conference of Latin American Studies, held March 18-20. This is the largest professional Latin American studies association west of the Mississippi.
