Internships

Policies regarding Internships

Students may gain valuable work experience, and earn academic credit, through an Internship or Cooperative Educational Experience (also know as Curricular Practical Training - CPT - for international students). In order to qualify for an Internship or Co-op, students must meet the following criteria:

Undergraduate students

  • Must have a declared major in Computer Science or Computer Information Systems
  • Must have completed CSCI 311 with a grade of C- or higher
  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the major

Graduate students

  • Must have classified standing
  • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all post-baccalaureate work
  • Must have completed the five core courses (CSCI 611, CSCI 620, CSCI 630, CSCI 640, and CSCI 650) with a passing grade
  • Must have passed the Graduate Writing Exam or CSCI 301 

To earn credit for an Internship or Co-op

  • Fill out the Internship Agreement Form
  • Read and fill out the CSCI 389 Syllabus
  • Take the agreement form, job description, offer letter, and syllabus to the Computer Science Department office  to register for CSCI 389
  • Be sure to keep in touch with the faculty supervisor throughout the internship, and turn in your reports on time
  • Students going out on Internship over the summer must enroll in at least 1 unit of CSCI 389 during the summer session
  • The Career Center may be helpful for finding an Internship
