37th Annual Student Research Competition Top Presenters

The 37th Annual Student Research Competition was held on Thursday, March 2nd, hosted by the Adelante Club, and sponsored by the Office of Graduate Studies, Instructionally Related Activities, the Office of the Provost, and Undergraduate Education. Fifty-eight outstanding students signed up to participate in the competition which included two types of presentations. For the traditional 10-minute presentation sessions, students were judged on a written summary of their work, their 10-minute presentation, and ability to field questions from judges and audience. For the 3-minute mini-presentation session, students were judged on their ability to distill their work into a very short but impactful presentation using only one static slide.

Our long-serving faculty and staff judges noted that this year’s competition showcased some of the best student research presentations they had seen and noted consistently high-quality research summaries. All of this made their work of selecting the top finishers in each session extremely rewarding but also very difficult! They engaged in lengthy deliberations to determine the winners in each session (see below for their final selections).

Ten of the winners from the 10-minute presentation sessions were selected to represent Chico State as delegates at the CSU Statewide Research Competition, to be held at San Diego State on April 28 and 29, where they will compete against the best student researchers from all 23 CSU campuses.

We feel honored that so many students participated in this event. We are impressed and inspired by them and the work they are accomplishing. They make us proud to work at a university with such remarkable students.

Statewide Research Competition Delegates

Although it doesn't always happen, this year the list of delegates to the statewide competition correlates exactly with the first and second place winners for each 10-minute session. All of the above first- and second-place winners (from the 10-minute sessions only) will proceed to the statewide CSU Student Research Competition to be held at San Diego State University on April 28-29, 2023. They will represent Chico State and compete with local winners from all 23 CSU campuses. We wish them the best of luck!

A special thanks to the faculty judges for the time, care, expertise, and commitment they devote to this special student event. Without them, the Student Research Competition would not be possible.
