Human Subjects & Animal Use

Research involving humans or animals is governed by policies of the Human Subjects in Research Committee and the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. All proposals for research using human or animal subjects must be reviewed and approved by the applicable committee before the research begins. Graduate Students are encouraged to seek guidance from their graduate coordinator in completing the Human Subjects and Animal Use Applications. Please note the deadlines for Full Board applications and plan ahead, leaving enough time for revision and resubmission of your application prior to the proposed start date of your research.

*There is no deadline for Human Subjects in Research applications in the Exempt and Expedited** categories.  These applications are reviewed by the HSRC Chair on an on-going basis. Expect a two week turnaround time on these applications.

**Please note that "Expedited" is a technical term for a particular type of Human Subjects protocol and is not used to indicate accelerated review (please see Requirements for Research Using Human Subjects (DOC) for more information.)

Questions and requests for assistance should be directed to the Office of Graduate Studies, Rosemary White, at rwhite@csuchico.edu or John Mahoney, Ph.D. Chair, HSRC & IACUC at jmahoney@csuchico.edu.  Submit completed applications to Rosemary White in the Office of Graduate Studies, Student Services Center room 460.
