Tami Harder Kilpatric died Sept. 16, 2012, at the age of 51. She worked for CSU, Chico for 14 years, first in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences, then in the Educational Opportunity Program, and for the longest period, in the Department of Political Science. Professor Diana Dwyre noted, “Tami was one of a kind, and so many of us will miss her amazing abilities, her inspiring leadership, her loyal friendship, and her smile.” Tami is survived by husband Randy, sister Trudy (Rick), niece Kayla (Cody), and grand-niece Katelynn.
Betty Mills, died Feb. 19, 2013, at the age of 83. She worked at Chico State for 23 years, retiring in 1988. Professor Bob Jackson said, “Betty is fondly remembered for her high standards and personal support by the faculty, staff, and students with whom she worked.” Betty is survived by children Russell, Brian, and Cheryl and five grandchildren.
Robert S. Ross died on Aug. 2, 2013, at the age of 73. Bob arrived in Chico as an assistant professor in the fall of 1968, with a PhD from the University of Colorado. He was named associate dean of the School of Graduate Studies in 1969. In 1993, he was elected chair of the political science department, a position he held until he retired in 2002. He continued teaching under the Faculty Early Retirement Program until 2007. Bob is survived by his wife, Sharon, a retired CSU, Chico math professor; daughter Andrea; sons Jason and Brian; and three grandchildren.
Stephen R. Newlin died on Dec. 29, 2012, at the age of 71. He established the international relations program, created certificate programs, and pioneered the Instructional Television Fixed Services, allowing people in rural areas to get a BA through interactive television. He received numerous awards for his contributions to the University. Newlin was preceded in death by wife Judith. He is survived by wife Merlyn; children Michael, Nancy, Jeffrey, Korin, Kristi, and Karol; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
