Welcome to the Department of Music and Theatre at CSU, Chico!

Temporary Virtual Services

The Music and Theatre Department office is available online and by email through Fall 2020 or until further notice. 

Summer Office Hours

From June 1st to August 14th, our virtual office hours will be:

  • Monday - Thursday,  7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
  • Closed Friday, Saturday, and Sunday 

The mission of the Department of Music and Theatre is to provide our students with opportunities to excel through disciplined study and practice in high-quality facilities, classes, performance ensembles and productions.

We seek to sustain the academic and artistic vitality of the performing and recording arts at California State University, Chico. We provide a fertile learning environment, which nurtures student creativity, Scholarship, diversity, and entrepreneurship, enhanced by the collaboration of students, faculty and staff. We promote the education, appreciation and enjoyment of the Arts on the campus and in the greater North State community.

Update

Summer is here, but we are still off campus. 

Everything will be online/virtual this fall semester. Our faculty is working hard to optimize your learning experience. We are learning as you are learning. We are waiting to hear from the Chancellor's office regarding MUSC 344, 444, and 447 as hybrid courses.

Wildcat email is where students will be contacted regarding syllabi, office hours procedure, assignments, tests and method of delivery of instruction.

Plans for fall semester MUTA concerts and productions are to be determined (TBD).

We will update information as we receive it.

Auditions

BFA in Musical Theatre will not require an audition.

I Am a Rural Teacher

This national advocacy campaign gives a voice to rural teachers. It is a collaboration between five organizations made possible by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Recording Arts Professor and Alumni Credited in Ron Howard Film

CSU, Chico Recording Arts Professor Dann Sargent, and former student, Kevin Valenzuela are credited for recording and mixing music in Rebuilding Paradise, a National Geographic feature documentary, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Film(opens in new window)
