Temporary Virtual Services

The physical office for the Music and Theatre Department is closed until further notice. However, most services are still available via online or email. Read more below.

The mission of the Department of Music and Theatre is to provide our students with opportunities to excel through disciplined study and practice in high-quality facilities, classes, performance ensembles and productions.

We seek to sustain the academic and artistic vitality of the performing and recording arts at California State University, Chico. We provide a fertile learning environment, which nurtures student creativity, Scholarship, diversity, and entrepreneurship, enhanced by the collaboration of students, faculty and staff. We promote the education, appreciation and enjoyment of the Arts on the campus and in the greater North State community.

All face-to-face instruction is canceled for the remainder of the semester. Instruction will be offered online or through other alternative instruction.

Instructors will contact their students regarding updates to their syllabi, office hours procedure, assignments, tests and method of delivery of instruction.

All MUTA concerts and productions are CANCELED for the rest of the semester.

Student recitals are also canceled. Students should contact Dr. Scholz and their private instructor as to how to proceed.

Scholarship audition day on April 4 is canceled. Incoming students may submit materials in an online format. See our scholarship page for information.

Recording Arts Professor and Alumni Credited in Ron Howard Film

CSU, Chico Recording Arts Professor Dann Sargent, and former student, Kevin Valenzuela are credited for recording and mixing music in Rebuilding Paradise, a National Geographic feature documentary, which premiered at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival. Film(opens in new window)
