Subject: Approval of a Minor Change to the BA in Theatre Arts
Upon the recommendation of the Provost, I approve a minor change to the BA in Theatre Arts. In response to a suggestion from the accrediting organization NAST, the Theatre Department is redesigning the elective groupings to give students more experience in Performance, Design, and Dramatic Literature/History. This change reduces the core requirements from 8 courses to 6 and increases the elective requirement by 3 units. Previously, the elective requirement allowed the student to select 27 units from any Theatre courses. Now there will be 30 units with 5 new elective groupings: Dramatic Literature/Criticism/History, lower division Technical/Design, upper division Technical/Design, lower division Performance and upper division Performance. This change will be effective Fall 2012.
