December 9, 2020 - CSU Planning for Anticipated Return to In-Person Courses in Fall 2021

To: Campus Community
From President Gayle E. Hutchinson

I know everyone is busy preparing for finals and I wish you the best in finishing out the semester—strong. I also want to share with you an announcement from the California State University (CSU) pertaining to fall 2021.

The CSU announced today in a press release (attached) that it anticipates a return to in-person courses for the fall 2021 term. This, of course, is welcome news and paints a favorable picture of our future. According to the release, “The emerging evidence provides optimism that the upcoming 2021-22 academic year can be conducted much more in person.”

Chico State’s Emergency Operations Center continues its planning for fall 2021 with the goal of having the majority of our on-campus experiences returning. A determination about the summer 2021 term will be made closer to the start of that registration period. We remain, first and foremost, committed to the health and safety of all members of our campus community. And, while we look forward to fall 2021, we must remain vigilant through the next few months.

I will continue to provide information as the plan emerges and details become available.
