September 23, 2020 - Dr. Joseph I. Castro Named CSU Chancellor

To: Campus Community
From: President Gayle Hutchinson

Today, the California State University named its eighth Chancellor, Joseph I. Castro. Chancellor-elect Castro has served as president of Fresno State since 2013 and possesses a highly esteemed academic record of support for student diversity and success. Having worked closely with Dr. Castro for more than four years, I am thrilled that he will take the helm in January. The formal announcement is attached, along with an invitation to “meet” the new chancellor in a live broadcast on Friday, September 25.

Also, it is with deep respect and admiration—and a bit of sadness—that I wish Chancellor Timothy P. White a fond farewell. He extended his tenure to guide the CSU through the early days of the pandemic and the difficult decisions regarding virtual instruction in the fall, capping an extraordinary record of service and elevating the CSU to greater prominence.

I look forward to working with our new chancellor as he positions the CSU for an even brighter future.
