Canvas Workshops & Working Sessions
We hope that you had a restful break. We also hope that 2023 will be good year to all of us. After the last few years supporting faculty during the pandemic, TLP is still in action with another large project preparing to support about 50% of the faculty in their migration to Canvas this spring.
We want to thank you for being patient with us as we scale Canvas for the first time.
While we have prepared during all of 2022 to setup and learn the intricacies of this new Learning Management System (LMS), none of us will know it like the 10 years we had with Blackboard. We will all be in a deep learning curve together in 2023 as all IT staff, faculty and students learn this new LMS. There are only six Instructional Technology Consultants and 10 student assistants in TLP to support 900 faculty making this transition this year, and we request that you keep this in mind when needing support and/or consultations. We will work collaboratively with you to learn all that we can as fast as we can. Again, we appreciate your patience and your willingness to learn with us.
Getting Started and Course Migrations
We strongly recommend faculty start with the 90-minute, self-paced “Getting Started for Faculty” course to get oriented and begin your Canvas journey. This will help us all get on the same page foundationally when asking TLP for help. We also recommend developing your new Canvas courses in the spring course where student enrollment is loaded and importing your migrated Bb content into that course shell.
In order for your students to see your Canvas course, you will need to “publish” your course the week before school starts. This is not automatic like in Blackboard Learn.
Canvas Workshop Schedule and Descriptions
We know that faculty return on January 18th, and for those faculty who are preparing early and already visiting TLP Zoom Lab or asking TLP questions, TLP will offer Canvas workshops and working sessions throughout January. Another schedule will be built for February in the near future.
Click on this link (Google Doc) to see January dates, times and workshop descriptions that TLP is offering starting Monday, January 9th. All sessions will take place in the online TLP Zoom Lab (break-out Zoom rooms).
