Stephanie Machado, DrPH, MPH

Assistant Professor

Dr. Stephanie Machado is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health and Health Services Administration at CSU- Chico. Her background is in public health nutrition and implementation science. Dr. Machado’s research focuses on school and community-based interventions to improve nutrition and physical activity opportunities for low-income youth and families. She is particularly interested in community-relevant approaches to improving the nutrition environment in rural, low-income public schools.

Dr. Machado has experience as a public health practitioner. She worked for a county health department in rural Oregon to advance health equity, tobacco, nutrition, and physical activity initiatives. Her teaching style is student-centered and grounded in applied learning experiences. She taught applied public health courses, including grant writing, program planning, research methods, and food policy at Oregon Institute of Technology. She currently teaches research methods and program planning at CSU- Chico.

Dr. Machado received her Doctorate of Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley in 2020. She received her MPH in Health Behavior/Health Promotion from the University of Arizona and a BA in Sociology/Anthropology from Middlebury College. Stephanie loves the outdoors and can be found exploring the rivers and trails of California in her free time.
