November 18, 2020 - Chico State Master Plan Approved by CSU Board of Trustees

To: Chico State Campus and Community
From: President Gayle Hutchinson

I am extremely pleased to announce that our Chico State Master Plan revision was approved by a unanimous vote yesterday by the CSU Board of Trustees. The Master Plan revision represents a unifying vision for the University, aligning the new Strategic Plan—Mission, Vision, Enduring Commitments, and Strategic Priorities—with the physical development goals into a single document to help guide the future direction of this dynamic university. The plan embraces both campus and community, and is reflective of the goals and objectives of a multitude of University and community stakeholders.

Furthermore, Chico State continues to lead the way in sustainability with the Master Plan, encouraging the reduction of auto dependency, diversification of transportation connections, and sustainable new construction, which will move us closer to our greenhouse gas reduction goals.

This is an exciting time for Chico State and the regional community it serves. It’s been a long road that began before the Camp Fire and has seen fire, flood, and pandemic try to stand in its way. Yet, through sheer will and the Chico State can-do determination, we stand here today with an approved plan! A sincere thanks to all of you who participated in the development of the Master Plan, especially Mike Guzzi, associate vice president for Facilities Management and Services, and Jenna Wright, senior capital planner, who guided the campus through the process. I’d also like to express gratitude to our community partners who stood beside us and contributed every step of the way.

In the coming year, expect to see the plan being put into action through enhancements to our campus bike path, the addition of solar panels to some campus buildings, the demolition of the old Physical Science Building, and the start of design for the Butte Hall replacement building. I look forward to seeing the plan unfold in the coming decade.
