Dr. John Knowles is an Assistant Professor of Land-Atmosphere Exchange and Ecohydrology at Montana State University, Land Resources & Environmental Sciences. A native of Maine, he attended Vassar College and the University of Colorado, Boulder where he received his PhD and discovered Ecohydrology as a discipline. That merged his passions for water and ecosystems.

Most recently, he came to Chico, CA from Tucson, Arizona where he served as a Research Ecologist with the USDA Southwest Watershed Research Center. He then served as an assistant professor of Ecohydrology at Chico State in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences. John has a particular interest in evapotranspiration (ET) and uses a combination of tower and satellite based methods to better understand how changes in ET affect ecosystem services including carbon sequestration and water resources.
