The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences Faculty Colloquium Series congratulates Dr. Mark Stemen, Department of Geography and Planning, for being selected as this year’s honored scholar and keynote speaker. 

The College of Behavioral and Social Sciences hosts the annual faculty colloquium to recognize their extraordinary achievements and efforts in research and scholarship and to present an honored scholar and faculty keynote speaker.

Keynote Speaker: Dr. Mark Stemen, Geography and Planning Department


Mark Stemen is a professor of Geography and Planning and teaches environmental courses in sustainability and civic engagement. He is well recognized on the campus for his work with students and the community on sustainability issues. Under his direction, students have completed a campus sustainability assessment, a greenhouse gas inventories for Chico State, Butte Community College, and the City of Chico. His students have also established two community gardens, created a plan for an expanded Saturday Farmers’ Market, and recently assisted the City of Chico and Butte County in preparing climate vulnerability assessments that will allow them to integrate future climate scenarios into their respective General Plans.
