For Students
ePortfolios are web-based tools designed to help students document, reflect on, integrate and showcase their learning inside and outside the classroom. ePortfolios provide a way for students to reflect on their experiences as learners and create a professional “digital identity” for academic and career purposes. Chico State is actively considering incorporating ePortfolios more intentionally into classes as a means to better document the “Chico Experience” for our students.
Resources
Open source and commercial providers of ePortfolio platforms offer help in getting started with your ePortfolio. Currently (Spring 2016) Chico State does not have a centralized resource to help students. If your instructor requires an ePortfolio for a class or program, they will provide you with directions on how to proceed. Otherwise, check back soon to get more information as Chico State launches ePortfolios across the university.
Examples
Currently, all Chico State students have access to Portfolium(opens in new window), a commercial web-based ePortfolio that is designed primarily as a tool to help students launch and advance their careers. Students can also opt for an open source platform to design their own website for career purposes through platforms such as WordPress(opens in new window), Wix(opens in new window), Weebly(opens in new window) and others.
