10th Bi-Annual Career Day: Careers in Nano-Science

WHEN: Monday, November 5, 2018 3:30pm - 5:00pm

WHO: High school students, college undergraduates, class teacher/advisor ONLY. Parents and siblings are encouraged to visit the museum during regular open hours.

COST: FREE with valid student photo ID

Ever wonder what a bacterium looks like? Or how we can manipulate atoms and molecules? Or even how nanomaterials can have huge implications in sustainability? Gateway Science Museum is proud to host Careers in Nano-Science for local high school & lower division college students. We are pleased to present guest speakers from a variety of science professions that while they work with the microscopic, they have macroscopic effects.

Students will meet with science professionals and learn about their experiences – how they got into their profession, what their day to day tasks are, as well as what they love about their career. There will be an opportunity to talk to each scientist one-on-one who may offer advice and answer questions students may have.

There will also be time to explore our current exhibits: Zoom into Nano and Beauty and the Beast: California Wildflowers and Climate Change. Snacks to be provided. Participating students are eligible to win PRIZES! [1]

For more information, please contact Luann Manss or (530) 898-5495.

[1] GSM staff, volunteers, commission, board and immediate family members are not eligible for prize drawings.

Museum Without Walls

Gateway Science Museum hosts Museum Without Walls, also known as MWOW, on Wednesday evenings in April and October. This series began in the fall of 2003, long before Gateway Science Museum was completed in 2010, which is how the series got its name. The series presents lectures with topics related to one or more of the exhibits currently on display at Gateway. MWOW lectures are open to all ages. For details about MWOW, click here or check the calendar of events above.

Herbarium Workshops

The Chico State Herbarium continues to offer workshops for the general public and the professional alike. Visit their webpage for a complete list of upcoming programs.
