CalFresh & Social Work at Chico State

The Chico State CalFresh Outreach Team is thrilled to announce that current participating students in the Social Work Field Practicum as a BSW or an MSW for this academic year may be eligible for CalFresh benefits! This is a new, state-approved student program that exempts you from meeting the work requirement for student eligibility. CalFresh is a public benefit program that provides grocery money every month on a debit card. The balance is automatically reloaded each month and rolls over to the next month if you do not use it all. You can use this debit card where you already shop…Safeway, Winco, FoodMaxx, Trader Joe’s, etc. The average Chico State student receives $150/month of grocery money on their CalFresh debit card.

The CalFresh application process can be complicated and may take up to 30 days, you are more likely to be approved for benefits when you apply with our team’s help. Let our well trained team assist you with an online application and when completed together, it can take less than 10 minutes. We can also answer any questions and provide additional information on an individual basis. Please note that eligibility takes into consideration household composition, income and other factors.

On our campus, the Center for Healthy Communities facilitates the application process for CalFresh.

Student Verification Forms (PDF) are available at the front desk in the SWRK Office.
