  • Preparation of biodiesel from low-value or waste feedstocks
  • Utilization of biodiesel co-product glycerol as a component in deep eutectic solvents
  • Microfluidics as a teaching tool in Quantitative Analysis laboratories

CURE-E Course: Integrated Laboratory III (Chem 483), Spring 2024

Project Title: Emphasizing the E in 483

In Chem 483, students design their own semester-long “wet chemistry” (lab-based) research project.  It can be anything they are interested in, with the only restrictions being safety, reasonable cost, and the use of chromatography as an analysis and quantification method. Often, students begin with a literature search, then extend something they found interesting in the peer-reviewed literature.  Students have worked on a wide range of projects, from carcinogens in burnt meat, to the chemical composition of fingerprints, to chemical signatures of different types of honey, and so many more.
