CURE-E Course: Programming and Algorithms II (CSCI 211), first introduced with CURE-E Fall 2023

Project Title: Exploring Weather Data: Creating a Data Management Program for Real-World Insights

Students will create a data management program that uses data structures and algorithms to organize, analyze, and provide insight on publicly available weather data for Chico, CA. Data can be sourced from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which provides a large database of historical data related to weather and climate. Students will develop research questions that can be explored and answered with the data and identify relevant community members or groups who would benefit from this information. There are many potential stakeholders, including people in agriculture, transportation, emergency management, renewable energy, tourism, outdoor recreation, and government agencies.
