Honors in the Major

Honors in the German major allows exceptional students to work closely with a faculty mentor in a year-long collaboration in original work that helps prepare them for graduate school or professional life. Honors work is recognized at graduation, on transcripts, and on the diploma.

To be eligible for Honors in German students must have completed all courses for the major with a GPA of 3.5. Upon recommendation by a faculty member and after an interview, the student will take 6 units of GERM 499H, Senior Honors Thesis, culminating in a public presentation of the project. In addition, an experience in a German-speaking country (e.g., an international study program or a summer project or internship) is strongly encouraged.
