Identity Mapping, Positionality, and the Student Experience

Faculty Development’s Research in Equity, Antiracism, Diversity, and Inclusion (READI) Team will invite participants to reflect on their identities and positionality, and show how that process can foster inclusive pedagogy and positive interactions with students. The workshop will explore the meaning of positionality, ask participants to “map their identity,” and help attendees create activities that can help students think through their own identities and positionality in and outside the classroom.

Navigating Wellness

According to the National College Health Assessment, in 2021 almost three quarters of students reported moderate or severe psychological distress. Come learn from the campus team who is doing their best to combat the mental and emotional challenges that Chico State students face each semester.

College-Based Innovation for Student Retention and Equity

Academic college leaders will share new and impactful ways they are supporting students’ connection to and success within their colleges. Hear about curriculum changes, new ways of building connections with peers and faculty, critical acts of translation, and other strategies for building belonging and closing equity gaps. Participants will have opportunities for engagement, feedback, and idea-sharing.

Getting to Holistic Student Support

What does seamless student support look like, across programs, platforms, and the student life cycle? Advancing Equity teams are actively building a Student Success Team framework through professional collaborations, including cross-unit advising support teams and technology implementations like early alert pilots and degree planning tools. The team leads are excited to share their progress in a gallery walk setting and welcome feedback as development in these critical areas continues.

Fostering Belonging and Engagement through Social Emotional Learning and Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy

In this interactive session participants will engage in practices that foster student belonging and engagement. These practices will be based in and focused on social emotional learning (SEL) and culturally sustaining pedagogy (CSP). Connections will be made to both classroom and institutional practices that research indicates are effective in improved academic outcomes.

Intentional Impact and Transformation - Student Testimonios from the Adelante Project and Chico STEM Connections Collaborative

Advancing Latinx student success takes intentionality, a commitment to servingness, and heart. Join us to learn more about the transformative practices of our student-facing Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) grant projects – the Adelante Project and Chico STEM Connections Collaborative – through authentic and inspirational student testimonies.

First-Year Peer Navigation and Mentoring

National research demonstrates the power of peer mentors on student retention, success, and equity. Academic Equity Project team leads will provide an update on the mentoring team's progress, including the development of a Mentoring Council. Additionally, participants will learn about team goals and timeline for expanding peer mentoring for all first-year students. Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and provide input on potential program infrastructure.
