Cornus nuttallii

Cornus nuttallii, or Pacific Dogwood, is a native to western North America and can be found in California’s mountainous areas. The tree is medium sized and can reach 20m tall, often with multiple trunks. The leaves are oval, 8-12cm long and 5-8cm width. The large white “petals” are really leaves. The actual flowers are extremely small, greenish-white 2cm in height. The pinkish berry is about 3cm in diameter. The fruits are editable, but taste rather poorly. Moths can be seen pollinating the flowers in the spring months.
