Abigail Buta

Abigail Buta, who graduated with a BA in Economics in 2016, is a double degree master’s student with the La Follette School of Public Affairs and the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She currently works as a project assistant for the Center for Research on Early Childhood Education (CRECE) at UW Madison, and as a policy researcher at Downtown Madison, Inc. After graduation she hopes to work in local government, with a focus on building strong, sustainable communities that maintain a commitment to equity.
Abigail studied business administration and management at Butte College from 2010 to 2013. While attending Butte College she helped support herself working at Round Table Pizza, Great Harvest Bread, and Barnes and Noble.
In 2013 Abigail enrolled at Chico State and continued working as a barista at Barnes and Noble and later Starbucks, while working as a front desk agent at the Best Western Heritage Inn on weekends. Abigail also worked for the Department of Economics as a student assistant and tutor.
“My economics degree has given me a framework for analyzing the world that I use every day at school and in my work,” Abigail stated in a recent email. “A strong grasp of economic concepts has positioned me extremely well in my studies, as policy makers are always concerned about the economic impacts of their decisions.” (Last Updated 3/30/20)
