RTP Updates

March 20, 2020
Debra S. Larson, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Dear Faculty,

I know these are very anxious times, and that you have many questions that emerge and change with each day of this evolving pandemic. My colleagues and I are trying to balance the temptation to answer every individual question immediately through email. However, there are so many questions coming up about RTP, it seemed sensible to provide an update.

This year’s RTP review activities are well underway with most reviews already completed through the department level. We are most likely extending the remaining review deadlines, and consultation to do so is underway with the CFA, Academic Senate, and other stakeholders. We will provide you with a revised 2019-2020 RTP deadline extensions as soon as possible.

For next year’s activities, the CSU is working to develop system wide guidance, and this guidance will inform our approach.

Please know that the Office of Academic Personnel and I are fully aware of how incredibly challenging the pandemic and the state-wide Stay-At-Home order is to your teaching, scholarship, and service. I always work from a place of fairness, practicality, and creative problem solving, and I will apply these same principles to the RTP processes for this year and next. You are the future of this University and we will adjust practices (in consultation with the appropriate stakeholders) to ensure continued fairness, practicality, and creativity.

While I have your attention, in addition to reaching out to your deans and colleagues, another place to find answers is the Chico State COVID-19 website that includes a set of FAQs for faculty.

Thank you again for all that you are doing to support our students and the University in these unprecedented times. We will get through this, and we will be able to look back with the knowledge that we are all trying to do our best in these uncertain times.
