Collaboratory Invitation

March 25, 2024
Amy Magnus, Director, Office of Civic Engagement

Chico State uses a community engagement database called Collaboratory to capture the many ways faculty and staff partner with communities near and far. Civic and global engagement is a key strategic priority at Chico State. In order to capture and assess the full extent of our University’s collaborations with community, the Office of Civic Engagement uses Collaboratory to gather information from faculty and staff to tell a story about the types and levels of engagement. This email is an invitation to enter your civic, community, and global engagement activities into Collaboratory by Friday, May 10, 2024 for a chance to win $100 of professional development/budget transfer funds! All faculty and staff qualify for this opportunity. Please circulate this opportunity widely to folks on campus doing community-engaged work!

Why enter your community-engaged work into Collaboratory?
Entering your engagement activities, including but not limited to community-engaged teaching, research, creative activities, and service work, is a meaningful way to contribute to our campus's Collaboratory database. As a public-facing, web-based database, the information is available to future community partners and prospective students, faculty, and staff. The data generated by the database are incredibly useful for grant writing; the recruitment, enrollment, and retention of faculty, students, and staff; providing evidence of your work in retention, tenure, and promotion dossiers and CVs; finding community partners for teaching and research; demonstrating Chico State's community-level impacts and more. The more our campus community contributes to the database the more complete a picture we have of all the community-based work we do here at Chico State. In return, the database provides our campus community with valuable information that we can use to enhance our work and campus priorities and objectives.

How to enter your community-engaged work into Collaboratory
The Office of Civic Engagement is here to help you! There are two processes for entering activities:

  1. For independent entries we encourage you to log in to Collaboratory using your Chico State SSO. You can enter your activities after logging in. Entering one activity typically takes about 10–20 minutes, depending on the nature of the activity.
  2. You can meet with the Office of Civic Engagement's Collaboratory Student Liaison Dhruv Bahl (dbahl@csuchico.edu) and he would be happy to walk you through the entry process. Please email Dhruv directly to schedule a Zoom or in-person meeting.

Entering just ONE community engagement activity into Collaboratory and having it reviewed and approved by the Civic Engagement team before Friday, May 10, 2024 will enter you into a drawing for $100 of professional development/budget transfer funds! All faculty and staff qualify for this opportunity. Faculty and staff who entered any activities between January 1, 2024 and now will also be entered into the drawing!

For questions or assistance entering your activities into Collaboratory, please contact Director of Civic Engagement Amy Magnus at ammagnus@csuchico.edu and/or Civic Engagement Student Assistant and Collaboratory Student Liaison Dhruv Bahl at dbahl@csuchico.edu
